ABOUT CLASSICAL
Classical was established in 1976 by myself, Bea Sawka and my husband Kevin when we obtained our first Bearded Collie and became involved in breeding and showing. After competing successfully with her Standard Schnauzer, Julie Kempster obtained her first Beardie in 1977 and we met the following year.
Over the years we became good friends and shared a lot of the same ethics and goals with our dogs and later Julie joined us at Classical. Kevin and I are located in Lindsay, Ontario, approximately an hour and a half from Toronto and Julie and her husband Dave are located close to us in Omemee, Ontario. Between us, we now show and (sometimes breed) Bearded Collies, Pointers and Havanese.
While we truly enjoy showing our dogs and showcasing their accomplishments, they are first and foremost our beloved family pets. They live in our homes, sleep in our beds and everything in our lives revolves around our dogs.
We strive to produce superior quality, healthy puppies that excel in temperament, soundness and correct breed type. Our puppies are home raised and are very well socialized to ensure that they are friendly, outgoing and easy to live with. Our puppies are born in our guest room where we sleep with the mother and her puppies for the first couple of weeks to ensure that all is well. After the first couple of weeks they are moved into our office for more socialization and then later into the kitchen/living room. When the pups are about 3 weeks of age we start taking them outside several times a day and introduce them to as much as possible both inside and outside the home.
The parents of our puppies are in excellent health and have appropriate health clearances before being bred. All are Champions and most are Puppy Group, Group, Best Puppy In Show and/or Best In Show winners. Our puppies are registered with the Canadian Kennel Club and Registration Papers are supplied to the new owner as soon as they become available.
Whether a top show prospect or a quality family pet, we strive to place our puppies in loving, permanent homes where they are a treasured member of the family. In order to preserve the breed, so that only the very best specimens are used for breeding purposes, we sell our 'pet' puppies on Canadian Kennel Club non-breeding contracts.
Our record in the show ring speaks for itself. Many of our dogs have won Best In Shows, Best Puppy In Shows and Best In Specialty wins. We have bred over 150 champions.
Some of our dogs have gone on to become the foundation of kennels around the world and many have become top winners and producers in Finland, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Bahamas, South Africa and Japan.
In 1997 we had the honour of breeding, owning and handling the Top Winning Dog All-Breeds in Canada, 'HARRISON’, Can. Am. Ch. Classical Image Of A Legend.
As well as competing in the show ring, our dogs also compete successfully in Agility, Obedience, Rally, Field Trials, Herding & Pet Therapy.
